Education Minister and Deputy Communications Minister Airlifted After Tumu Road Accident

Ministers Airlifted After Serious Crash in Northern Ghana
Ghana’s Minister for Education and the Deputy Minister for Communications and Digital Technology were airlifted for urgent medical treatment following a serious road accident in northern Ghana.
The accident occurred on Thursday, 12 February 2026, along the Bolgatanga–Tumu road while the ministers and members of their delegation were travelling to official engagements in the Upper West Region.
Emergency services responded quickly, stabilising victims at the scene before coordinating an air evacuation to allow for advanced medical treatment.
Airlift and Medical Treatment
According to multiple reports, the injured officials were first airlifted to Wa before being transferred onward for further treatment in Accra.
Government sources later confirmed that both ministers were in stable condition and receiving medical care. Other members of the convoy also received treatment, with some sustaining minor injuries.
Incident Location and Possible Cause
Initial reports indicate the crash happened between Banu and Kunchokor on the Tumu–Navrongo highway during the late morning hours.
While investigations are still ongoing, early information suggests the accident may have been linked to road conditions and poor visibility caused by dust along sections of the road.
Official Programme in the Region
The delegation was reportedly travelling to participate in official activities linked to anniversary events at the Tumu College of Education, alongside other government engagements in the region.
Renewed Concerns About Road Safety and Infrastructure
The incident has sparked renewed discussions about road safety and infrastructure quality in northern Ghana, particularly along major regional highways that connect rural communities to urban centres.
Observers have also highlighted the importance of strengthening emergency medical response capacity and improving access to advanced healthcare facilities outside major cities.
Authorities are expected to release further details as investigations into the incident continue.
